The isopropylbenzene technology uses propylene and benzene as raw materials to produce isopropylbenzene through alkylation and alkyl transfer. isopropylbenzene is the raw material for producing phenol and acetone, and phenol is mainly used in the production of phenolic resins, epoxy resins, polycarbonate, etc. Since 1990, research on liquid-phase synthesis of isopropylbenzene has successfully developed BTA-01 and BTA-02 catalysts based on ultrafine nano Beta zeolite, as well as MP-01 and MP-02 catalysts based on organic silicon hybrid layered zeolite SRZ-21. Based on the above catalyst, a complete set of energy-saving isopropylbenzene technology has been developed.

This project has obtained a total of 41 authorized invention patents in China, 18 authorized invention patents related to foreign affairs, and has won 1 National Technology Invention Second Prize, 1 Sinopec Science and Technology Progress First Prize, 1 Shanghai Technology Invention Second Prize, 2 Sinopec Technology Invention Second Prizes, and 1 China Patent Excellence Award One first prize of Shanghai invention and creation patent, etc

Cumene complete technology:

The isopropylbenzene process technology synthesizes isopropylbenzene through liquid-phase alkylation, and its technical characteristics are as follows:

(1) Extremely low energy consumption: The operating benzene to olefin ratio of the device is as low as 2.0, significantly reducing energy consumption and equipment investment.

(2) Extremely low material consumption: The material consumption of the device is close to the theoretical value, with propylene material consumption as low as 0.3510 tons/ton of product and benzene material consumption as low as 0.6523 tons/ton of product.

(3) Excellent product quality: The highly selective catalyst suppresses side reactions, resulting in a purity of 99.96% for the product isopropylbenzene. The impurity content of n-propyl benzene is less than 300ppm, and impurities such as ethylbenzene, styrene butadiene, and a-methylstyrene are also minimal.

(4) Maximum flexibility of raw materials: Catalysts have good anti impurity performance, and propylene raw materials can be used including polymerization grade, chemical grade, and refinery grade. Benzene raw materials can be petroleum benzene or hydrogenated benzene.

Cumene series catalysts:

The main brands of isopropylbenzene catalysts currently promoted include BTA series and MP series catalysts, and the main product features are as follows:

(1) High activity: Using BTA series catalysts, complete conversion of propylene and high conversion rate of diisopropylbenzene; Using MP series catalysts, it can operate at low temperature and high altitude, complete conversion of propylene, and material consumption close to theoretical values.

(2) High selectivity: Using BTA series catalysts, the heavy component recycling of the device significantly reduces isopropylbenzene, reducing material and energy consumption. By using MP series catalysts, the benzene to olefin ratio was reduced to 2.0, significantly reducing energy consumption;

(3) High stability: using BTA series catalysts, with a lifespan of over 6 years and a hot benzene washing cycle of over 6 months; Using MP series catalysts, the catalyst has a lifespan of over 8 years, maintaining long-term stable operation and maintaining reaction performance during operation.

(4) Environmentally friendly: Catalysts have no harmful or corrosive components, do not pollute the environment, and are renewable.

Promotion application:

The complete technology of isopropylbenzene has been licensed to three enterprises. In 2010, a 300000 ton/year isopropylbenzene unit was built at Tianjin (Zhongsha) Petrochemical, and in 2019, a 240000 ton/year isopropylbenzene unit was licensed. The isopropylbenzene series catalysts have been applied to six sets of units including Gaoqiao Petrochemical and exported to Europe.
