1、overview
The production process of petroleum refining and petrochemicals produces a large amount of C4 hydrocarbons as by-products. How to fully and reasonably utilize these by-product resources for the development of deep processed products has attracted widespread attention. Before the 1980s, C4 produced as a byproduct of catalytic cracking (FCC) in petroleum refining processes was mainly used to produce alkylated gasoline and blended gasoline, as well as fuel for industrial boilers and civilian use; The C4 fraction from steam pyrolysis in petrochemical industry is not only used as a raw material for synthetic rubber, but also as a fuel for industrial and civilian use. In recent years, the technology of synthesizing propylene oxide (PO) from high-purity isobutane through oxidation reaction and then reacting with propylene, while producing tert butanol as a byproduct, has become a key process route for preparing PO. In order to obtain high-purity isobutane (≥ 99.9% wt), it is necessary to perform deep full hydrogenation on the separated C4 material after alkene separation, ensuring that the olefin content in the hydrogenated C4 is below 50ppm and the sulfur content is below 0.5ppm.

The distribution and composition structure of the active phase of the developed C4 deep hydrogenation catalyst are superior to similar hydrogenation treatment catalysts in terms of multiple physical properties. The catalyst has high hydrogenation activity, strong resistance to carbon deposition, and low sulfur resistance.
Starting from C4 with a double olefin content of less than 0.1%, a single olefin content of 0.1-10%, and a sulfur content of 10-300ppm, the hydrogenation products can achieve an olefin content of less than 50ppm and a sulfur content of less than 0.5ppm, providing high-purity C4 alkanes with extremely low olefin content for PO-MTBE and other devices.
2、Promotion application
The C4 hydrogenation catalyst was industrially applied in the 600000 tons/year high-purity isobutane unit of Jinling Petrochemical in July 2017, and the comprehensive performance of the catalyst reached the international advanced level.
